   :description: Social media presence for Balospe.com --- and why LLoL is deeply conflicted about it.

Social Media
******************************************************************************

LLoL is deeply conflicted about feeding the algorithmic beast that social
media platforms have become.

These platforms have created what might be called the **BABL machine** ---
Blind Algorithmic Bubble Loops that trap users in echo chambers, amplify
outrage for engagement metrics, erode shared reality, and systematically
reward the loudest voices over the most truthful ones. The resulting
toxicity is not a bug; it is the business model.

And yet --- LLoL can also perfectly understand why these platforms do what
they do. In the absence of a viable alternative, maximizing engagement is
the only way to survive in the attention economy. The engineers building
these systems are not evil. They are trapped in the same work-logic
cascades that this entire site is trying to help humanity escape.

**ResearchCity is about constructing such an alternative.** If you care
about social media toxicity --- if you want a world where information
systems serve truth rather than engagement --- then the most meaningful
action you can take is to :doc:`buy in </buy-in/index>` to help build
the infrastructure that stands a real chance to replace the BABL machine with something
gentle kind reasonable.

Current social media presence
================================

**X (formerly Twitter): @AuditTheMath.** LLoL now has one social-media
account --- `@AuditTheMath on X <https://x.com/AuditTheMath>`__ --- used
sparingly, mainly to point to #AuditTheMath material on Balospe.com.

.. note::

   This single account is a deliberately cautious first step, not a full
   social-media strategy --- and it is held in the same tension described
   above. LLoL's resources are still largely consumed by building the
   site itself. When a :doc:`Community Manager </action/jobs/index>` is
   hired (see the tentative ResearchCity hiring plan), a fuller social
   media strategy will be developed --- one that practices what this site
   preaches about avoiding BABL dynamics.

What you can do now
======================

- **Follow on X.** LLoL posts occasionally as
  `@AuditTheMath <https://x.com/AuditTheMath>`__ --- mostly pointers
  back to material on Balospe.com.
- **Share pages directly.** Every page has social sharing metadata
  (OpenGraph cards) built in. Copy a URL and share it wherever you
  think it matters.
- **Write about it.** Publish your own assessment on your own platform.
  Link back so others can check your claims against the source.
- **Subscribe to updates.** The :doc:`Jonah Mailing List </action/newsletter/index>`
  is the closest thing to a social feed --- low volume, no algorithms,
  no tracking.

Future plans
==============

When capacity allows, social media presence may expand to include:

.. toctree::
   :hidden:

.. AA_Task_Create_SubPages_Below -- potential future sections:
   spread-the-word/index (sharing guidelines)
   connect-and-share/index (community links)
   follow-along/index (update feeds)
   amplify/index (how to amplify effectively)

..   Added LLoL's new X account @AuditTheMath (https://x.com/AuditTheMath)
.. to "Current social media presence" + a "Follow on X" action; replaced
.. the now-stale "no active social media accounts" note with a measured
.. "cautious first step" framing that keeps the page's anti-BABL tension.
